I was fortunate to be able to see Peter Nero and the Philly Pops when they visited Cape May, NJ about a week ago on Memorial Day. Oh man they jammed! They played a variety of music from Ellington to Tchaikovsky. Peter Nero still has it on the keyboard even at 78 years of age. The person sitting next to me asked one of the sound crew about Nero’s age and we could not believe the response. He’s 78 but plays the piano like he’s 28.
Everyone in the audience was having a great time and the musicians looked like they were enjoying the concert too. I had never seen such happy musicians before. The visiting concertmaster, Michael Ludwig, played a version of Carmen that brought the house down. He was unbelievable!!!
If you ever get the chance to see Peter Nero live, go see them. You won’t believe the show.
